You might be a homemaker if (Day 8)

you BULK UP!

You know, " bulk cooking"  or freezer where you invest some time to prepare meals ahead to be heated and eaten at a later date.  If you have attempted this at any time, you probably reached some conclusions

1. it's a lot of work
2. my family either hates or loves this type of meal
3. This is such a time saver/sanity saver for me this is the only way I feed my family
4. I love that when I need to I can pull a meal out of my freezer and feed my family

I have done various versions of this during my homemaking career.  My current version involves doing small bulk sessions.  I particularly like using this method for bake goods.  IF I am going to bake I am going to make it worth my while. It takes so little extra effort to double a batch of cookies or banana bread that it is worth it for me. I have teen boys and they can throw down some food. I  also do this if I have company.  I would rather spend time with my guests than be trapped in the kitchen.

There are a number of REALLY great resources out there. Here are my favorites

Fix, Freeze, and Feast by Katie Neville and Lindsay Tkacsik - This book is based on Costco items especially meat packs.  You don't necessarily cook the meat during the session but you do all the prep. I have heard Lindsay speak a couple of times.  She does this method to bless her family and others. This is a totally doable system. I have listed my favorites to make from their book:

Teriyaki Sauce, Mozzarella Meatballs, Sweet Chicken Tostada Filling, Berry Roasted Chicken, Beef Barley Soup, An's Pork Chops, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, red sauce

A resource that came out this past year is from Jessica Fisher at Life as Mom - "Not Your Mother's Make-Ahead and Freeze Cookbook". Some of my favorites are:

Cinnamon Rolls, Chicken Bacon Subs, Make Ahead Bacon, Make Ahead Pizza Dough

Jessica today has a post up called - "Freezer Cooking Will Save Time"

  1. Well, I'm a homemaker by this account, too! I currently do a lot of doubling my recipes - one for now to eat, and one for later in the freezer. And I always do it with my baked goods, too!
