Weekly Roll- Dahlia Edition

It has been a challenging technology week. Have you ever had one of those? Sorry in advance for the stereotype but you find yourself talking to someone in India to solve your tech problems. That is quite clearly when you have hit rock bottom. We had phone problems, internet problems, printer problems. I think things are sorted out but I seem to have the tech kiss of death. So now I bring you flower news because it is the cure to technology problems.

Way earlier at the beginning of summer, my bestie helped me score some discount dahlia tubers. So I have a little dahlia patch.

Santa Cruz Dahlias who I follow on Instagram has a new Dahlia Breeding book out that is getting a lot of buzz. Floret Flowers has a dahlia book coming out in the spring called "Discovering Dahlias". I am lucky to live in an area with a lot of small flower farmers.

Random Thoughts

Made a large Goodwill drop off.  I still have some more to donate. They weren't taking any furniture at my location. I also have been inside of my Goodwill recently. It is probably the cleanliest I have ever seen it. I also noticed how parred down the selection seemed. I wonder why that is because I waited in the donation line longer than usual and it looks like they are getting lots of donations. ALSO why would you wait in the donation line to drop off one little bag.

Weekly Roll

Selling Sunset is one of my Netflix guilty pleasures. When I saw a Emily Henderson blog post how her associate was contemplating buying a $299,000 home in the hills. Spoiler alert is a MAJOR fixer. It is
an interesting read.

Our Surge Capacity is Depleted - This is an awesome article. I think it is totally on point.

Sourdough Report

Tried something different - Venison for Dinner's Sourdough Sandwich Bread. It turned out great. This does have a darker crust.

I also made Sourdough English Muffins recipe from Little Spoon Farms. Yes, I did all this in the same baking session. I am a little cray.

Baker River Trail

Baker River Trail is near Baker Lake. It is about 1 hour and 40 minutes from our home. I went with my oldest son and best friend. None of us had ever hiked this trail. The trail dead ends in a campground along the baker river. I have to say the highlight of this trail is the AMAZING log bridge.

It also had an amazing pit toliet at the campground. It was totally open air.

Wordy Wednesday

Well I live with basically two teenage boys. I assign chores and most of the time they only do 90 percent. So this is my new saying to them. It is basically what separates adults from kids. I keep doing 100 percent and they do 90 percent. It wears on a person. It is my new pet peeve.

Weekly Roll

I have a senior this year. This is tough to know the right answer. So many choices but so little choice if you know what I mean. My Senior's school is going online for the first quarter.

Interesting Blog Post about Lemon Tree Trust and how it is encouraging gardening at Refugee Camps. Floret had a great blog post on their efforts.

Podcast - Nice White Parents- Produced by the same people who produced Serial. I am finding it thought provoking

Sourdough Update

I have been taking a break from bread but I did make Sour Dough English Muffins. It was a good thing I made a double batch as my kid could not stop eating them.

What I Read August

I am linking up to Quick Lit hosted by the wonderful Modern Mrs Darcy. Check out what everyone else is reading.

I received another hold from Modern Mrs Darcy's Summer Reading List. I actually had forgotten that I requested it.

Code Name Helene by Ariel Lawhon
This work of fiction is based on the real life of Nancy Wake. Nancy was an Australian expat living in France who bluff her way into a reporting job for Hearst publishing. She married a wealthy Frenchman and when the war came became part of the resistance and later part of the British Special Operations. The book is broken down by all her code names. Nancy is amazing and fearless. This was a great compelling read. You can't but help but root for her. The operations she ran were complicated.  She was the most decorated woman of World War II. Perhaps the best read of my summer.

Wordy Wednesday

This letter board is actually by something that my husband has been saying. Just try to do a little better at things. Change and improvement happens little by little.

Happy Birthday Mom

We took on a special photo project to celebrate my Mom's big day. Unfortunately, our immediate family is split geographically currently and we also live a long way from my Mom. We wanted to send a special birthday message.

What's on my bucket List

The prompt for my modern story this week was make a bucket list. Back in 2014 I had made one on my blog. My bucket list is mainly a travel bucket list.

Ride the Hiawatha Trail (Complete)
Hawaii (Maui) - We had wanted to do this for our 25th anniversary this year. Not going to happen
Glacier National Park
Crater Lake
See the Northern Lights in Iceland

Drive the ET Highway and do the geocaches along the way. (Complete)

There are a few more that I crossed off my bucket list that weren't on that list

Tulips in Mount Vernon, WA (complete)
Oyster Dome (complete)

Def Lepard in Vegas (complete)
Whale Watch Cruise (complete)

Of course there are a few I would like to add.

Scotland
Walk the Camino Del Santiago in Spain
Mt Rainier - I have been here but would there is still a lot I would like to see
Mount Saint Helens
Olympic Park

Of course the prompt led me to other bucket lists I have. I have some genealogy bucket list items as well. I think that is a post for another day.
