Gardening Linky

We are having the strangest winter here in the Pacific Northwest.  As of Jan 22nd, I still had a calendula still blooming.  CRAZY!

What I Read February

My reading life is picking up.  I don't know if it is the colder weather.  My book selections are interesting this month.  I don't think they will be everyone's cup of tea.

Both of these books are true stories with the subjects having trauma in their lives and causing trauma.  I don't know what is attracting me to these type of books.

Sandra has lots and lots of trauma in her life.  She began her life as a boy.  This true story follows her life and her stories of cleaning up other people real life messes - hoarders, deaths, etc.  This was a slow read for me.  I don't know what compelled me to pick it up. I thought parts of this were extremely graphic.

I'm Just Happy to Be Here by Jannelle Hanchett
I saw this book recommended by another instagrammer.  This true story is about a mom that deals with addiction to drugs and alcohol mainly to alcohol.  Most of the book deals with her descent into addiction.  The last part of the book deals with her recovery.  I am just so so on this .  I did appreciate her sponsor's, Good News Jack,  advice - " If you're are sitting in the living room but want to be in the kitchen, the first thing you have to do is realize you're in the the F....living room. Which lead to Janelle's realization "We can't get someplace new until we're honest about where we are."

Bliss(ters) by Gail M Francis
You know I can't resist a trail about the Pacific Crest Trail.  This is a shorter one.  I enjoyed the descriptions that Gail provided and how she hiked the trail.  Her trail name was Nightingail.  She liked to sing while she hiked. Happy Valentine's Day

Just wanted to send out some VERY SNOWY Valentine Greeting from the Pacific Northwest!!

Happy Valentine's Day

This year I sent out the least amount of Valentine's cards I have ever have.  Between the government shutdown and some medical issues I was feeling uninspired. I made this with our Cricut Maker. We invested in this to help with our small business.

What is Saving Me Right Now

I linking up with Modern Mrs Darcy's What is Saving You.  Check out what is saving everyone else.

We have reached the half way point of winter. This is perhaps my most serious version of what is saving me that I have ever put out. It has been a stressful winter so far.

Savings Account
Our savings account literally saved us.  My husband was a working government furloughed worker.  I feel blessed that we had that cushion.  We literally had a no frills budget. We had enough to pay our bills. It was one thing that we had to stress about. I am thankful. I know thousands of workers didn't have that luxury.  That really sucks.  I feel grateful to my community how they stepped up to help.(food bank and many others)

Dave Ramsey and others such as Jessica at Life at Mom have talked about how to create Emergency Funds. One of the best adulting decisions we have made.

Pantry
My pantry saved us because of the above mentioned furlough.  My son said we won't starve.  We literally ate through our pantry.  It was a good exercise in cleaning out, too. There might have been some expired rice crispy treats. Hey, no one died.  Also who has 4 ham bones in their freezer and a turkey. Below is a excerpt is of my furlough diary. Designed in Project Life App.

Humor
Eclectic_twist on instagram  posted a joke that I literally sent to EVERYONE and it was the levity we needed to get through the day. The joke is kinda inappropriate so if swears aren't your thing don't look up the punch line - What do you call a constipated detective?

Unexpected Bloom

We had an unexpected mild January here in the Pacific Northwest.  I still have a few calendulas blooming.  It was a bright spot in a rather dark gloomy winter.
