House to Home - Kitchen Edition

Hi my name is Heather and I have a stalled kitchen project. I thought about joining the One Room Challenge.

Background

We bought a house June 2022 in NEW MEXICO!  It is a 1950's house that had been somewhat updated.  We bought it for its huge backyard. The kitchen will need to be completely renovated in the future.  It is tiny and somewhat functional. We were all about making it work.  Below is what it looked like.

There is also a very red built in china hutch with glass doors.

Where we are now. We have painted the paneling a filmy green.  We removed all the decals from the cabinets. We took down the ceiling fan.  We added an additional unfinished cabinet between the stove and refrigerator. We want to wait to do a complete renovation down the line. This room is odd but mostly functional.

What I HOPE to accomplish.  Paint the Red China Cabinet a darker green specifically Basil. Get a real table or DIY a rolling kitchen Island.  Maybe sew a new valance.  Possibly create a dog food bowl station.  Maybe do away with wire shelving unit I am using as a pantry.   That seems like a lot.

The project that stalled this whole thing was that red china cabinet. I started stripping it and quickly got over my head.

Below is the very rough layout sketch. There are a lot of doorways in and out of this space.
