A couple weeks ago I turned my phone on and found this picture. Yes a giant picture of my husband's eye.

Yep, my own husband did this.  I wish I could tell you this is the first time kind of thing. But it isn't .  My son left me a picture of his infected ingrown toenail.  I am not sharing that picture with you.

Notes of Mediocre Homemaker - Beating the Darkness

Stock up on Vitamin D and Coffee. People get a little weird up here in the Pacific Northwest with less sunlight.


Oh my it gets so dark up here on the Northern Border.  Oh and it gets all rainy and stormy as well.These are my go to's to beat the darkness.

COFFEE!
 No wonder Starbucks was born here.  I need about a bazillion cups of coffee to make it through my day. 

D3 - Yes the vitamin.  Lots of people are low on that up here

Get Moving.  If it is even slightly sunny get out in it.  I use a fit bit to track my progress or lack of progress.  It is one of the best investments I have ever made.

Have your vacation in the Spring and go to a sunny location.  This has never happened for me.  But I always hoped it would.  OR plan your summer vacation.

Notes from a Mediocre Homemaker - GAS!

Make more time to read the literature in the Gas Bill.  There are some GEMS in there.

I found this brochure in my gas bill.  It cracked me up.  IT IS EVEN scratch and sniff.  My juvenile self cracks up. Anybody else ever find entertaining literature in their gas bill?

Notes of a Mediocre Homemaker - Dollar Store Kryptonite/Eyeball Wreath

The Dollar Store is my Kryptonite.  I always end up buying SOMETHING.

I decided the back of my front door needed a wreath.  I am a little obsessed with creepy eyes at Halloween. However, I needed to do it on the cheap.  I can not walk in the dollar store without coming out with something.  Truly the Dollar Tree is my kryptonite. I spotted a eyeball scarf and the rest is history. That was all the inspiration I needed.  I had the wire wreath on hand but the rest of the supplies are from the Dollar Tree.

I ended up not using the plastic eyeballs and black mesh tubing

Wreath Supplies

black plastic table cloth - cut in 3rds lengthwise
1 eyeball scarf
1 package  Mesh Tube
1 wire wreath form

The technique I used for weaving the black plastic through the wire form is the same one you use for the wire burlap wreaths.  Instead of a black plastic tablecloth I think a black garbage bag would work as well. I just fussed with it until it looked just right.

Notes of a Mediocre Homemaker - Failing Monster Identification 101

Know the difference between GODZILLA and KING KONG. Even a 1st grader knows the difference


Recently, I totally failed at monster identification.  I have been doing some before school care for a 1st grade boy. This typical 1st grade boy is into monsters such as the Loch Ness Monster.  Recently, he was playing Godzilla.  We ended up playing Godzilla taking over the city.  It was really exciting and in a effort to extend the activity, we made drawings.  I made a drawing in which I thought I was drawing Godzilla instead I made a big hairy ape.  I clearly was making King Kong.

My young charge couldn't figure out why I was making a hairy ape.  This first grader totally drew an awesome Godzilla.

When I was in Target the other day, I saw the Godzilla DVD and the cover was Pop Art.  I noticed several 80's movies had Pop Art covers as well.

Doesn't everyone mix up a giant ape and a giant lizard?
