Diary of a Mediocre Homemaker - Who the heck is Marie Kondo?

Oh, the internet is a buzz with The Life Changing  Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Who the heck is Marie Kondo and why should I care? Marie is a Japanese Organizing Guru.  Everyone is asking, "Have you tried the Kondo method/"  If you have been to my house it is obvious that I am in dire need of the KONDO method! So if you see me wandering my house picking up random items asking myself " Does this bring me joy?" I am not crazy I am just doing the Kondo method.

Some of my favorite bloggers have reviewed her book - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Elise Blaha Cripe - Tidying=Life Changing
Life as Mom - Book Review
Modern Mrs Darcy - Books for Self-gifting

I have not been able to get my hot little hands on her book.  My library has a long wait list for her book so I look up some youtube videos on her method.  This is exactly how a mediocre homemaker would go about it. Check them out.

Bison Slobber

We went to the Olympic Game Park near Sequim, WA.  It was a fabulous drive through wildlife experience.

None of us had ever been so when we arrived at the admission booth and they asked how many loaves of bread we wanted purchase, we had no idea how many to get.   You can only feed the animals 100% whole wheat bread. We had just watched the car in front of us buy 6 and we thought that was extreme.  We bought 4 and we now believers in the 6 loaf principal!!!

You might want to reserve the majority of your bread for the end of your journey.  I pretty sure we witnessed a bison and elk hold up.  They literally will chase your car down.  I was a chicken I refused to roll down my window for the ending part.  Bison have really long tongues. They even licked our car.

What I have been reading May edition.

I find myself with a book list of one.  This is unusual for me. I think this is the least amount of books I have read in ages.

I finally read a book everyone has read, Still Alice by Lisa Genova.  It made me cry. I seem to be on a tragic circumstance trip with books and movies.  I managed to read Still Alice and watch Remember Me, Listen to Me, and Fault in the Stars.  I couldn't finish Fault in the Stars. This book easily fits the box on the Reading Challenge as a book everyone else has read.

Does anyone else get in a reading rut or lack of finding quality books rut?  Well I am in one so I am going to be checking out Modern Mrs Darcy's Quick Lit.  Please pretty please leave a reading suggestion in the comments.

Diary of A Mediocre Homemaker -Shrek's Key Lime Cake

I thought I would start a new feature highlighting my mediocre homemaker skills or lack of.  I have covered my homemaker adventures in the past but this is part of my story so I thought I would try to share in a more weekly series.  Sometimes it won't even be misadventures but successes as well. But you can expect some misadventures too because one thing I am not is Martha Stewart.

My husband's birthday usually falls on Mother's Day weekend.  So I usually try to do something special during the week prior for him aka a special meal.  Hey, I have skills in that area.

I decided to make a new type of cake - Key Lime cake mix and Key Lime Frosting.  I added sprinkles to the top .

I splurged and bought the premade icing. I usually don't do that.  I usually not a fan but this key lime frosting is eat out of the container good.  The frosting is what takes it to the next level. The key lime cake mix didn't do anything for me.
Doesn't EVERYONE have their own Shrek figurine?
My sister said I should call it the shrek cake because it is green and over the top.  Consequently, Shrek is my husband's nickname as well.

**** This is not a sponsored post.  It is entirely my thoughts and opinions.

What I learned in April

1. 93 cent bags of  M&M's turned into M&M cookies make kids happy

I was able to score some cheap Easter M&M's which I turned into cookies. Recipe is here.  My kids were so excited.  It really is the little things.

2. Back to Back Sad Viewing and Reading

I don't know what Netflix and my reading are trying to tell me.  But  I have watched 3 movies that ended with the main character dying( Remember Me, Listen to Your Heart, and Fault in the Stars)  It is depressing.  I admit I couldn't finish the "Fault in the Stars." I also read Still Alice by Lisa Genova. I don't think I can do the "Still Alice" movie even if it seems to fit into my theme viewing. Lastly, my friend suggested I watch the episode of Grey's where McDreamy dies.  I think I have reached my death and depression quota.

3. Blooming Aloe Plant

My mega big aloe plant managed to be tipped over twice last year and repotted. I think that is what lead to this beautiful bloom on it.  It hasn't had a bloom in years.

4. Creative Mojo

I have been working on getting my creative mojo back.  I have a few projects in the work.  I have a rag quilt I need to finish.  I have been working on some graphic things. Keeping the creative mojo going is WORK.  It is a muscle that needs to be worked.

5. Songs Stuck in My Head

I seem to have a strange knack for getting parts of songs stuck in my head. This time it is a Jeep Commercial Song.  Well played Jeep.  It is "Renegades"  by X Ambassadors.

6. T-Shirt Message that Cracks me Up

I have a little habit when I am Goodwill and Value Village browsing of taking snaps of funny t-shirts. This is one I found this month. Let's face it I am easily amused.
