Adele Blood - Part 2 - THE DIVORCE

Oh, the headlines don't disappoint.  Adele Blood and her husband, Edward Davis are all over the news.  There was a very messy and public divorce.

Just a quick recap - Adele Blood was an actress she married a Reverend turned Actor.  She is most known for her dramatic death by self-inflicted gunshot later in life. See Part 1

Rumblings of a divorce actually appear in headlines as early as 1911.

 DIVORCE CASE WATCHED

Frederick Esmelton Bryant Names Rev Mr Davis

In 1913 Edward Davis was named in another couple's divorce suit. This is perhaps the last straw for Adele. Edward Davis is seen outside a hotel with Frederick Bryant's wife, Louis Power Bryant, stage name Jule Power by her husband. Frederick actually knocked down Edward in front of the hotel on West 47th street in New York City. Jule so happened to be the leading woman for Davis in his playlet "The Kingdom of Destiny."

Edward Davis counter sues accusing Adele of indiscretions. Edward claimed that his wife has made a practice of "coercing famous men" into calling on her in various cities - Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, Chicago and New York. Edward Davis names another actor Franklyn Ritchie as someone that Adele was spending time with. The was testimony from a Adele's costar claiming she saw Franklyn Ritchie with Ritchie in an embrace in a dressing room. Testimony from the elevator operator claimed he saw Franklyn Ritchie leaving Adele's room.

Davis even dragged Mississippi Governor Brewer into the fray. Governor Brewer claimed that he didn't know Edward or Adele. The Governor had met Adele as he attended a performance of Everywoman in which Adele was the leading lady.

Governor Brewers's Agent, Ira Sample, allegedly instrumental in Adele dropping her divorce suit in Louisville against Edward Davis for abandonment and refiling her suit in New York City. Adele hired the lawyer Henry Bradford and brought the present divorce suit. Ira Sample also supposedly was the one to encourage Frederick Bryant to file suit against his wife Jule Power. Edward would claim he would meet Adele when she was a stenographer and sometimes model for Frank C Banks.  Frank C Bangs was a Broadway photographer and later a cinemaphotographer.

Eventually the New York would grant Adele a divorce from Edward in 1915.  Edward would go onto to make Jule Power his 3rd wife.

Adele would go on to make more headline's some good as her very successful run in "Everywoman" and other tawdry affairs. Look for Part 3
