52 Ancestors - Paternal 3rd Great Grandmas

In honor of the upcoming Mother's Day holiday. I thought I would do another post but on my Paternal 3rd Grandma's. These 3rd Grandmothers are much more diverse many hailing from Ireland and Germany. There is some Roman Catholics and some Quakers.

Mary Ann Crowley Gilligan was born in March 1852 in Ireland. I am unsure when Mary Ann immigrated. She was born after the Great Famine in Ireland. Mary Ann had three daughters with Peter Gilligan between 1875 and 1882. Peter and Mary ran a Saloon and lived in the back. We know this because her husband and her are listed in the city directory. She died in 1912 at the age of 60, and was buried in Zanesville, Ohio. Mary would outlive her husband by 18 years. (find a grave)

Elizabeth “Eliza” M Tucker

When Elizabeth M Tucker was born on November 4, 1853, in Kentucky, her father, Henry, was 34, and her mother, Catherine, was 40. She married Joseph Hawken Davey on November 27, 1879, in Cuyahoga, Ohio. Joseph was a teamster. They had seven children in 17 years. (I can only find 6 but according to the census she had 4 living and a total of 7 children. Eliza was naturalized in 1922. She died on June 12, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 70, and was buried there. Eliza was Roman Catholic. She had 11 grandchildren which included 2 catholic priests and 2 who fought in World War 2.

Ruth “Ruby “Tharp Baldwin

When Ruth E. (Ruby) Tharp was born on February 26, 1831, in Wayne,

Indiana, her father, Laban, was 24, and her mother, Nancy, was 22.

She married Henry Jackson Baldwin on October 14, 1847. They had seven

children in 12 years. She died as a young mother in 1862 in Liberty, Indiana,

at the age of 31, and was buried in Marion, Indiana.

Eva Shimp Crutcher

Eva Shimp was born in 1856 in Ohio, the daughter of Ms. McDill. She married

William M Crutcher on January 30, 1877. They had three children during their marriage.

She died as a young mother on July 12, 1881, at the age of 25, and was buried

in Lancaster, Ohio at Forest Rose Cemetary. It is unknown if her husband carved

her tombstone. He was a marble and tombstone carver. Eva is also

the youngest to die of all my 3rd Great Grandma's.

Tacy Jane Mellor Ross

When Tacy Jane Mellor was born in 1846 in Ohio, her father, John, was 26, and

her mother, Temperance, was 24. She married Franklin Ross on May 12, 1866.

Franklin had fought in the Civil War. They had five children in 15 years. She died on

January 23, 1923, in Muskingum, Ohio, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was

buried in Zanesville, Ohio.

her father, Joshua, was 39, and her mother, Sarah, was 36. She married

Barclay Mahlon Bond on March 31, 1869. Elizabeth was a lifelong Quaker. They

had eight children in 13 years. This included a set of twins. Only one twin survived.

She died on March 10, 1920, in Merced, California, at the age of 74, and was buried

in Long Beach, California.

Ida V Mozkie(Mocki) Schadwell

Ida V Mozkie had one daughter, Ida with Rudolph Shadwell in 1863 in Germany. This 3rd great grandma I know very little about.

Therese Lendman

Therese was born in 1821 in Germany. Therese was believed to immigrate in 1853. She had three sons and two daughters with John "Wenzel" Lentman between 1839 and 1859. According to the 1900 Census, Therese had 8 children but only 4 living as of 1900. She died in 1902 after having lived a long life of 81 years. This is my longest living 3rd Great Grandmother on my paternal side.
