52 Ancestors - 3rd Great Grandma's

One of the projects I have been working on is writing little biographies about all my 3rd Great Grandparents. I have 32 Great Grandparents of which I have 30 of those identified. In honor of the upcoming Mother's Day Holiday, I thought I would highlight a few of my 3rd Great Grandmas from my maternal line.

The Civil War happened during their lifetimes.  Many of these mother's had children that fought in the civil war.

Margaret "Peggy" Rebecca Younkin Pringey
had 3 sons who fought in the Civil war and 2 future son in laws that also fought. Peggy herself would die 8 months before the last battle near Bruceton Mills, WV was fought.  She was just 49 years old.  She would never see her two daughters Candace (2nd Great Grandmother) and Abbie marry civil war veterans. Nancy Smith Liston
also had sons that fought in the Civil War. Nancy had 2 son's and possibly a 3rd son who fought in the Civil War. One son that fought was my 2nd Great Grandfather Henson Smith Liston. He would marry Candace Pringey.  Henson served with Candace's brother. Nancy had a long life of 81 years.

Most of my Great Grandmothers were married only once except Artellia Malissa Shaw Howard Brennaman McKenzie. She was married was married 3 times. She also had the most children at 12 and around 13 stepchildren. In 1870, according to the census there were Howard, Brenneman, and McKenzie children of the household of Joseph Mckenzie. It was one large, blended family. She also was born the latest in the 1800s. She was born in 1833. (link)

Mary Ann Pather Howard married Corneluis Howard. She is also a sister-in-law to Artellia Malissa. They married brothers. Corneluis Howard was Jesse Howard's brother.  Mary's life was upended in 1868 when her husband was killed in a land dispute. She is the longest living of my 3rd Great Grandmothers at 86 years.

Sarah Sally Soddard(?) Hoyt married Alanson Harvey Hoyt. She had 5 sons and 4 daughters. I am unsure who her father and mother are. Sally is the one of the 3rd great grandmas that don't know her lineage. Sally lived to the age of 57.

Eliza Young Virgin married Kinsey Virgin on March 13,1831.  They had 6 children but only 1 child, Mary Eliza Virgin my 2nd Great Grandma lived into adulthood. It is said Kinsey Virgin had a funeral for every child. The Preacher John Turner - little Baptist preacher of Crane Creek, Illinois did all 5 services for the children and both parents as well.
