Notes of a Mediocre Homemaker - Spider Web Frame

I just can't help myself.  I get a idea in my head and can't let it go. Even if that idea involves hot gluing my hand to a frame.

This past summer my husband bought 10 motel art frames from the ReStore.  Hubby got the frames all 10 for $50. He has been re-purposing the glass into new frames.  The frames he has just been breaking apart.  Well, I decided after browsing pinterest to make a spiderweb for one frame.  The idea came from Becki  Adams Blog. I had the hubby hit this frame with black spray paint. I tired to use thumb tacks to hold the web strings in place.  That just didn't work.  I ended up using Becki's suggestion of  hot glue.So, the string is hot glued to the back of the frame. Becki's tutorial is great. The spider is one that I had in my Halloween stuff

It turned out OK. I love the low cost and low time commitment.  It definitely adds a graphic pop over my china cabinet.

Notes from a Mediocre Homemaker - Harry Potter and Me

Don't start a new Harry Potter book when you need to get anything done. My mother would say that is any book I get my hands on. 

My 8th grader consumed this story practically in one sitting.  I enjoyed it as well. I soon forgot it was written in a play format.

Why is it I always have the Harry Potter Theme stuck in my head as well? Anyone else read Harry Potter?

What I Read October

My reading has been on the lighter side this month.  I am participating in writing 31 days and that has seriously cut into my reading time. I am linking up to Modern Mrs Darcy's Quick Lit.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling was one of my reads.  This is a play in book format and much like others I quickly forgot that I was reading a play.  My 8th grader consumed this book in one sitting practically.

Before We Visit the Goddess by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is another book I completed.  This was one I believe recommended by other readers on Modern Mrs Darcy's Quick Lit. I liked it but it jumped around a bit .  The story is told through grandmother, daughter , and granddaughter. So this novel is about 3 generations and the choices that each make that impact the next generation.  I am intrigued about Indian culture so this was an interesting and moving read.

The daughter of a poor baker in rural Bengal, India, Sabitri yearns to get an education, but her family’s situation means college is an impossible dream. Then an influential woman from Kolkata takes Sabitri under her wing, but her generosity soon proves dangerous after the girl makes a single, unforgiveable misstep. I have been messing around with Chalk Lettering.  So I checked out from the library The Complete Book of Chalk Lettering by Valerie Mckeehan.  Wow, this is a really cool and inspiring book.  I spent several nights messing around with chalk.  Post here on my results. I am a big time arm chair adventurer.  I think I have a bad case of wanderlust.  


See my travel bucket list Pinterest board. Unfortunately I really don't have the budget to jaunt off to some exotic locale. Books and movies about adventure are totally within my budget. I also totally live vicariously thru other people who get to jaunt off. I love love a good adventure read.

Notes of a Mediocre Homemaker - I got my eyes on YOU - Creepy Eye Ball Round UP!

I have an eyeball thing at Halloween.  I am really into the creepy eye decor.  What does that say about me?

I made a whole pin board with creepy eye decor.  It is a sickness.

Last year I added these eyes to my bush.  (link)  This year I added some bigger eyes to the inside of my front door. I took dollar store eyeballs and added magnets.

I attached a cut Popsicle stick to width of eye and hot glued it and the magnets 

I also created that eyeball wreath.

I also got some light up eyes on clearance for my front window.
