Well, I did it. I served store bought cookies for my parents and to Nonna.  Both claimed I have never done that.  Guess what? They still ate them.  They weren't as good as homemade, but no one died.

Deep Thoughts

I had gotten tickets for my dad for his birthday to go to the air races on Wednesday, but he got sick the night before.  He had a 24-hour flu. He had a little adventure with a trip to the ER to get some fluids.  So, on Friday we thought we would try again but it was hotter than he thought he was up for, so we did the next best thing and paid $10 to stream the air races.  The snacks were great and the AC even better.

You know hope and fear can live in the space. I have been working on something.  I hope it works out and yet I am fearful of all the what ifs. Anyone else in that head space.

Yep, we are still picking up trash while our son rides in the skate bowl on his scooter. We still find weird stuff. I am kicking myself for not taking a picture of a note we found.  The gist of the note is it a strange breakup note. It said I got out of the hospital at 230 am. I knocked on your door, but no one answered. Maybe it for the best that we don't see each other.  Don't think the note ever reached the person because it was in the park.  There is a hospital located next to the park though.

 Deep Thoughts

On Tuesday we had our author meeting for Book Club.  We read "The Lion Women of Tehran."  Of course this was right after the announcement of Dolly Patron's passing.  We all decided that Dolly was a Lion Woman.  A Lion Women is a woman who is comfortable in their own skin, courageous, generosity of spirit, true to their selves. It was wonderful hearing from Marjan Kamali.  My book review is here.

I made 2 Persian dishes for dinner before book club. In the book Homa and Ellie are taught to make Shirazi Salad. The recipe can be found on Marjan Kamali's website.

The sweet treat I made was Ghorabiah Tabriz which is an almond macaroon with chopped pistachio. This recipe was a challenge with egg whites and lots of whipping.  Glad I gave it a try.

I got to chance to chase a sunset in my old stomping grounds.  I took a break last week and went on adventure and to celebrate my niece who is expecting.  It literally the first baby shower I have been to in YEARS.  It was so fun.

Inappropriate TALES FROM THE ROAD

We do a lot of driving here in rural New Mexico. Thought I would share a few inappropriate things I noticed last week in our travels.  I saw an apparently homeless man carrying his urine in a plastic garbage bag.  In the middle of nowhere Vaughn New Mexico, we saw a man handcuffed and following a deputy from the gas station.  It wasn't much a prisoner transport but where was the guy going to run to.

We also found Cinderella's abandoned carriage. You have to stop to check it out.

My husband has been working on the shadow box up above for months.  It was a custom order. The majority of the shadow box is made out of Beli wood. He did all the laser work on this too.  I know when he was asked to do this project, he didn't think it would take months. I say by far this is the hardest project he has ever done. There was also the pressure of wanting to tell the story of this veteran in such way as to honor him.

Does anyone else use Merlin to identify birds?  I use it quite often when I am in my backyard.  We actually have a house sparrow nest on our patio. I know bird watching is a peak old person activitiy.

Orange Bundt Cake My son told me it looked worse after I put the glaze on. I should of used baking spray.  It stuck a bit to the pan. I made the glaze with 2 tablespoons of orange juice, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and some orange zest. They are big fans of pistachio bundt cake

Went to the Generation X Takeover at the Route 66 Casino.  Perhaps the most inappropriate appropriate thing we did last Saturday It was an experience.  We laughed a lot and jammed to Generation X toons.

My dogs were not impressed with my bubble machine.  I pretty sure they aren't ever impressed by any of my antics. The bubbles really show up.  I was going to take to 4th of July Parade but chickened out. Be prepared for more amazing bubble pics.

Former President Biden photo bombed his wife, Dr Jill Biden's, zoom with our book club. We were having a discussion about her book, View from the East Wing. This zoom cracked me up. I enjoyed listening to the zoom.  The book was meh for me.  Book review is coming in July.

We had this for our book club dinner.  The only change I made was to use coleslaw and double the sauce.The mint in here was surprisingly good. Plus we made mojitos later in the week with the leftover mint.

I cannot lie I was really excited when our new dishwasher arrived.  We have a tiny kitchen, and this is a portable dishwasher.  I have been without a dishwasher other than myself and my husband since Mother's Day.  It may be small, but it is mighty.

We also have ordered more spoons! Where have all the spoons gone?  I totally relate to the sentiment above.

Deep Thoughts

We are at a kitchen crossroads.  Our kitchen needs a remodel.  It is tiny and I am not sure we can change that.  Buying another portable dishwasher decision was only choice other than a full gut.  All the electrical and plumbing. There was no electrical under the sink so installing a cabinet dishwasher was going to involve more than we could juggle currently.

I rewarded myself with a sticker bootcamp course for my Cricut. Does anyone else reward themselves when they do something hard? I have done many things with my Cricut but designing stickers is not one of them. It was time consuming, but I learned a lot. This was a Mim Jenkinson sticker bootcamp course.

There has been a lizard hanging out in our yard.  The dogs have been enjoying chasing it. I pretty sure they would eat it if they caught it.

It was pointed out to me thar my behavior was enabling someone else's behavior.  I really did not like having that pointed out to me.  I really wanted to deny that but upon sitting with that I decided to take some steps to change my behavior. If nothing changes, nothing changes.
