How does my cut flower garden grow?

I haven't put much effort into my cut flower garden this year.  There are a lot of reasons but even with very minimal effort I had blooms.  The collage above is a few of the bouquets this year. 

I grew zinnias, dahlias, calendula, bunny tails, daisy's and roses. Of course, the calendula, roses and daisies are perennials 

I 100 percent grow these for my own pleasure. Having a vase of fresh flowers on my table makes me happy. I do give some away but the majority are for my table.

I love how much positive energy Floret has generated with their show on Discovery Plus and their show Growing Floret. Erin and her team are frankly amazing. I love how much they share about cut flowers.

Definitely going to grow bunny tails again next year. I started mine from seed. I would plant in the ground next year. They are fun!

Weekly Roll - End of Summer

It is starting to feel like fall here. Our public schools don't start until this coming week. We are always the last to start.  This is my first year with no public school kids.  Both my kids will be attending the local technical college which starts in the middle of  September and pretty much everything is online this quarter.

Yep that is me at basic training. I have a lot of feels about this Afghanistan pull out. SO many feels. I enlisted during Desert Storm.  I was never in combat. I think about those service members who gave their life in Kabul this week. Thank you! I think it is important to know their names - militarytimes

52 Ancestors - Tragedy

 

I am joining Amy Johnson Crow's 52 Ancestors Writing Challenge. The past week topic was tragedy.

I found a post it note to myself with ancestors labeled with "fatal mistakes".  (Doesn't everyone have a fatal mistake post it list) So this is not only a tale of tragedy but a fatal mistake. 

This tale of fatal mistakes comes from George Virgin (1797-1855) my mother's second great grand uncle. This tale was documented in "The History of Mason County (Ill)"  

It seems George kept his colic medicine on the mantle with other bottles, one of which was Poison for vermin. Getting up in the dark he took the wrong bottle and died a week later.

George died when he was 58. George grew up in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. George was born to Kinsey and Rachel Virgin. When George was about 15, the family moved to Sciotio, Ohio.  Kinsey Virgin, George's father died when George was just 17. He was married to Alcy Sikes. She would out live him dying at age  70. I haven't been able to prove if any children were born to this union.

I have a lot of questions

What was George's profession - farmer?

Did everyone store their vermin poison next to colic medicine?

This was so tragic it made the History of Mason County History book. I mean it was a tragedy. Is the only remarkable thing about George is how he died?

I am confused. I don't know what naturally essenced means. Did they just wave an orange in the product? I HAVE QUESTIONS. Evidently I am not sophisticated enough to drink La Croix.  I am drinking these lately trying to break my soda habit. 

Funko Headquarters

We made a special trip to Funko Headquarters in Everett, Washington in honor of my son's birthday. This is a place he has wanted to visit. We visited early on a Sunday morning. They open at 10 and the drive is about an hour and 15 minutes from our house. There was already a line forming when we got there.  However as soon as the store opened we got right in.
