Frost and the Smell of Fresh Asphalt

Yes, there is frost on the roof of the new school. Fall has arrived. There are still many things still not done at the school behind my house. The playground was recently installed but children can't play on it until the grass grows around that. Don't know when that is going to happen as the frost has arrived. It is funny and sad to watch the kids to stand at the orange construction fence and watch the playground. The driveway and part of the bus lane aren't paved so this morning it looks like they may be ready to finish that. There is also some sidewalk that also needs to be completed. We have been taking our life walking the bus lane with the various buses and construction vehicles.

Yes that is the Giant Man Child on the infinity climbing thing. I don't know how they will keep kids off of this as the adults can't stay off the equipment either.

Bermuda Triangle of School Placement

At last, the school board has decided somewhat who will attend the new school being built behind my house. There has been months of rumors so at least something has been decided. I still don't know if my children will be attending but we are one step closer to knowing. Details in this article earlier this week. The general gist is that students in a school in another part of town which has part of it's building is condemned will be bused to this new school and some neighborhood children will also attend to relieve overcrowding at the nearby schools. This new school is literally in my backyard so according to the article those in neighborhood MIGHT get to attend also. So, back to the waiting game. I hope to post some more pictures of the progress on the school later. Oh, it also is suppose to open on time but I have my doubts.

Graffiti

I have been a single parent for the last couple of days so I haven't had time to post. I've got some photos to share and I hope to find time today to do that. On a more serious note, I noticed some graffiti on some of the trailers over at the new school. It had to be done last night as it wasn't there yesterday. I can't tell if there was any graffiti on the new school or not. I will post some pics later. It kinda creeps me out. I had to let my dogs out at 1am this morning and now I wonder if that is why they wanted out. I don't believe the graffiti was there at the time. I look directly out at these trailers as they face our dog pen. Added to the fact, I was the only adult in the house makes me uneasy.

Bang, Bang

Bang, Bang is basically what I woke up to this morning. Life is rough living next to the soon to be two-story, 60,000 square foot state of the art facility being built in my back yard. The bad boy being built back there is going to cost $13.8 million. The school will have 4 learning classroom clusters and will share a library, gym, and computer lab. Just in case you were wondering.

It is official

I now live behind Cascadia Elementary. The school board has finally decided on a name. The picture above is from the Ferndale Schools Winter 2006-07 newsletter. Right now, it looks like a skeleton of this as it is mainly metal beams.

School Names

The name suggestions are in for the new school. Our local paper had some of the suggested names. I guess there were a total of 278 submissions with Bakerview being the top submission. That is no surprise as the school is being built to take advantage of the view of Mt Baker. Who cares about the academics or the facilities? I did like the submission of "Pinnacle" as a name. Some of the others such as "Top of the World', "Cloud's Peak", and "Galaxy" just seemed a little out there. Of course, my previous suggestions were not included in the list. As you can tell from the picture, it is finally starting to look like something. It probably the tallest building around here.
