What I Read August

 Well the library holds have become a trickle. I got some popular reads on my hold list. I guess it is to be expected. But then BAM everything seems to arrive at once. You can't win at the library hold game I guess.

Books are better with garden bouquets, right.

Revival Season by Monica West

I haven't ever been to a revival but this book is about a preacher's kid, Miriam,  and how they are traveling the revival circuit. She is told only men have the power to heal.  There is a lot to drill down into this book - domestic abuse, faith, healing, patriarch. There is an interesting story here. 

Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First

This book really left me wanting to get out a notebook and really journal. I think this is a book that will stick with me for a while. She covers a wide variety of questions to dive deeper with yourself and friends - Who are you?, Who was there?, What are you afraid of?, When did you belong? , What broke you? etc.

The Comfort Book by Matt Haig

When I first picked this up and thumbed through this. I wasn't overly impressed. Then I was going through some personal stuff and I picked this up. It was comforting to read these little stories and quotes. I felt uplifted. I think this would be a good book to give as a gift.  There were a couple that really resonated with me - Doors and Negative Capability. I liked this quote - "Curiosity and passion are the enemies of anxiety."  and the quote by Joy Harjo - " There is no poetry where there are no mistakes."

The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee

This book was one of Reese Witherspoon book picks. It is a YA book. The book is set in Atlanta in 1890 and Jo Kuan works as a lady's maid during the day and works at night as the Agony Column author Miss Sweetie. It was a decent read.

A couple weeks ago a instagrammer, Jordan Page, perfectly put the words to what I was feeling. 

I have been living through a lot of change this summer.  The changes are neutral neither good or bad. It has been leaving me a bit paralyzed or just stuck.   I have been a half asser.  I am trying to reform. 

Sourdough Update/Experimental Cooking

Bit fat fail this week. I tried overnight sourdough muffins. Underneath tasted okay. Ugly food is something I have been excelling at recently.

Trek for the Treasure - Lighthouse Point

 Hike #5 for Trek for Treasure was Lighthouse Point at Deception Pass.  We had to take our photo with the lighthouse in the background.  The green box in the picture is the lighthouse. That part is very underwhelming.

We hiked from Rosario Beach to Bowman Bay to Lighthouse Point.  It was roughly 4.2 miles. We left in the rain but as soon as we hit Skagit the rain disappeared. Thank goodness! We saw 5 otters. It is fun to walk along the ocean.

Inappropriate Thoughts

It is really sad when you get excited about a cleaning tool.  I bought myself a spin mop. It does make mopping fun. Am I even allowed to say that?  I was inspired by gocleanco instagram. I even got their book.

I have been at this homemaking thing for a while.  I am not the best homemaker. This can definitely up your homemaking game if you are so inclined.

52 Ancestors - Favorite Name

Favorite Ancestor Name - I participating in Amy Johnson Crow's 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks writing prompt .

I have always like my Great Great Grandmother's name Kimetia  - Kimetia Brenneman Howard. It was the first name that really stood out in my beginning genealogy research. I wish I knew more about her personally.  

Kimetia was born to Henry and Artellia "Artie" Brenneman in Hancock County Illinois, 1856. Kimetia was the oldest born to this union. This was both Henry and Kimetia's 2nd marriage. They were both widowers with children from their previous marriages. Kimetia grew up in a large blended family. 

Kimetia married Willis Howard in 1873 in Hancock, Illinois. Kimetia married her mother's first husband's nephew. Kimetia step sister Sarah Brenneman also married another nephew of Kimetia's mother's first husband- Tilamen Howard. Willis Howard was a farmer. They had 5 children - 4 girls and 1 boy. In the early 1880's Kimetia and Willis settled in Cass County Iowa. In the early 1990's they packed up and moved to Letcher, South Dakota. Her son, Leroy, was also living in south Dakota with his own family around that time. She died in 1915 in Letcher, South Dakota. She is buried in Newlon's Grove in Cass County, Iowa.

However, her gravestone has her name as Kimetia.

You really can't say Yipee Ki-yay without smiling.  Saw a license plate with the abbreviated version of Yipee Ki-yay and it didn't fit the vehicle . Think coupe but it probably fit the spirit of the person driving.

I saw a sign at the Hob Lob aka Hobby Lobby that said " Choose Happiness". Can you really choose happiness off the buffet of life?  Hey, I would like an order of happiness. I am not sure it works that way. I am also not sure all of us recognize happy.
