Putting the Garden to Bed

Here in New Mexico, it has been still warm, but the lows are going to be in the high 30s. The time has come to put the garden to bed. Most of my cut flowers are in pots.  

Most of my plants are in containers. I plan to overwinter my geranium on my back enclosed porch along with some succulents. The oasis is about to get planty.

I am collecting dahlia seeds. I do plan to save my current dahlia tubers.  I grew some of them from seed.  There isn't anything super special, but I thought I would save the tubers. I collected the seeds too. 

I made kinda of a mess, but I have some seeds to try. I like experimenting. A paper plate is better for this than just a paper towel as the petals really do blow away easily.

Ghost Story - Podcast - I have started listening to this. Investigative journalist investigates a ghost that was in his childhood home. Not scary and very crime forward. Interesting true story.

Silent Walking - Why does this crack me up?  Well, I actually lived in a time before phones and podcasts.  I myself prefer to walk with a friend.  Some of my best conversations have been on walks with my best friend and funniest too. I have done Rage Walking. That is something I can get behind.

Inappropriate Thoughts

Seeing this made me cry, a good cry. Coffee is clearly my love language. My husband was gone on a work trip. Our routine every morning is him making coffee. He left me a coffee set up - actually two. This made me so happy.  I really don't function well before coffee. It was the ultimate kindness.

The 52 ancestors in 52 weeks prompt was Digging Deeper.  This part of Amy Crow Johnson's writing about 52 ancestors in 52 weeks.

I keep circling back to Oklahoma and specifically Oklahoma politics.  I found another connection to Oklahoma politician.  See my previous post on Joseph Colburn Pringey. I found a mention in my 4th great grandmothers Find a Grave blurb that James Mountain Inhofe, US Senator and Congressman, was related to her. This got me curious. I decided to see if I could connect myself to the former senator. 

Abigail Appolonia Rhoads Pringey was born November 29, 1776, and died February 12, 1866. (find a grave) Abigail married John Pringey.  They resided in Somerset County Pennsylvania for their entire lives. Abigail is my 4th Great Grandmother on my maternal side.

I made a chart.  It is very homemade. Below is how I think I am related to James "Jim" Inhofe.

If I am related it is very distantly - James "Jim" Mountain Inhofe is possibly my 4th cousin. Jame's parents were Perry Dyson Inhofe and Blanche Mountain. I am related to him through his mother's maternal side. 

Jim is a very successful politician that retired this year. Below are some of the positions that he has held.

Wordy Wednesday

 Whenever I see the phrase, "Misery loves company." I think of my 5th grade teacher who had a Ziggy poster which said, "C'mon in .... misery loves company." Mrs. Williams was always a bit scary to me. She made us take dictation with our spelling. The other 5th grade teacher was much more popular, Mr Hedyt.  She was a smoker.  Unfortunately, she died of lung cancer.

The Gain and The Gap

The wins here in New Mexico seem so hard fought. I was thinking this in relation to our shop being built. This past week we had our final inspection. A scrapbook influencer was talking about how we focus more on the gap than the gain. This phrase has been rattling around in my brain. It seems like we have been working on this shop forever. So, I am going to tell you about the gain.  I will do a post likely next week all about the gap on the shop.

The Gain: There is a building where no building existed. The building is connected to the electric. We now can get rid of our paid storage. My husband has a dedicated space for his projects and his woodworking. He has been making do. We have a place for storage. This is a remarkable gain.
