 you ever wished Martha or Rachel would show up

Of course, I am referring to Martha Stewart or Rachel Ray. There have so many times I have felt out of league and drowning by a situation that involved my home or it's inhabitants. Homemakers need encouragement in a job that doesn't necessarily give you immediate feedback.  I haven't been high fived for cleaning the toilet yet.  I found these interesting blog entries though geared more to women.  I think that can encourage anyone in the homemaking field.

Squirrel Moment # 1003

Lately, my local supermarket has been a great source of squirrel moments or sightings.  See here for a definition of squirrel moments. Some of you might of remembered the giant plastic cow in the dairy section.  Well this one is a little different.

That is toilet paper displayed in the frozen food section.  I don't know what they are trying to say exactly.  IT was just so unexpected.  It was almost(yes almost) a deterrent from buying a cheap frozen pizza.  As almost to say if you eat a lot of this frozen junk, you are going to need a lot of toilet paper.  I don't know what the marketing science behind locating the TP in the frozen food aisle. Just strange location for a toilet paper display is all I am saying.

My superpower is I know where the best Donut shops are.  It isn't much but I am hanging on to that.

It is a little sad when your husband calls because he wants to know if I heard about a donut place in our town.  I so have the scoop on that. 

Though it is a little strange when your child asks you if a chocolate donut is a performance enhancing drug.  I assured him it was only performance enhancing drug I am taking.

If you want to know the inside dirt on how to find the best hair dresser, kids gymnastics place, contractor, sushi,  ask a homebody.  No need to search the internet.  Sometimes people are the best resource.

My favorite donut places in Whatcom County. These both are locally owned.

Johnny's Donuts- Love the chocolate and pumpkin donuts but everything is yummy.
Rocket Donuts I think Rocket Donut was one of the first places to have a Bacon Maple Bar. Yum!

Hard Core Caching

About 2 weeks ago, Nonna gifted us with a rare day out without our kids in honor of our 18th Anniversary.  We decided to do some geocaching.  Unknown to us, this Saturday was a record rain day in the Pacific Northwest.  It was rainy but not unbearable when we started out.  We visited Kanaktat -Palmer.  We ended up on a slight bluff overlooking the river.

This is the first time we have ever cached with an umbrella.  That was interesting. It seemed like everytime we came close to opening the cache the sky just opened up.

We also visited Nolte and Federation Forest. I am always amazed by these old growth forests. I kept expecting Robin Hood to show up at the Federation Forest.

Then we headed more to the coast.  We ran into an interesting surprise at Schafer State Park.  The top part of a tree had landed on a mini van.  I wish I had taken a picture. The Ranger ended up closing the park to incoming traffic. The State Park Cache at Schafer required some math.  We had some trouble with that. We set off on the trail in the driving rain.  We kept hearing trees falling in the forest and we had trees looming over us. .  We were in the middle of the trail and thought we should turn back as we couldn't really seem to locate the cache.  Then on the way back our geo senses kicked in and there lo and behold the cache.  To top it off, leaving the park we got turned around.  We did end up doing a good deed of helping some people trying to push start their car. 


We made it to Lake Sylvia park to find the entrance blocked by a tree.  So we decided to find another park as it didn't look like they were going to get the tree moved anytime soon. So we drove onto the coast stopping at Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach.

With the sun setting, that ended our caching day as most of the parks close at dusk.  So close to our goal of 50 Washington State Parks.

you have a deep rooted obsession/addiction to pinterest.

May I direct you to my sidebar so you can witness my obsession.  I have 17 boards (yes, 17!) What is my problem? I admit I am addicted to Pinterest.   I love that it acts like a storage place for your idea boards essentially.  I was always forgetting to bookmark those great ideas I would see out in blog land or I would have no idea why I had something bookmarked. Secondly, I have tried so many things because of pinterest and the majority have been really successful.

My obsession is deep rooted in that I have actually tried some of these things out.  Nothing too crazy but I can point you in the direction of some others that have tried some of the more crazy stuff on Pinterest.

Most of my attempts at pinterest pins have been food related. My most successful has been the Hootnanny also known as the dutch baby.  Oh so delish. The Baked Ravioli was also successful. I could go on and on.  Pinterest sometimes for me have become a meal planning tool.

On the kid craft side.  I frequently found craft ideas from pinterest to do with my kids and my daycare kids. Here is just a small sample of the art activities we have tried.

You might be a homemaker if (Day 10)

You have ever lusted over a certain appliance

Maybe lusted is not the right word.  You covet a certain appliance.  You wax poetically about said appliance. You know that this appliance could change your life.  Well maybe it isn't that dramatic but you get the gist.

I am ashamed to say for the longest time I have wanted a Zojirushi bread maker.  I have a perfectly fine bread maker.  But I know I could be a kick butt baker if I had a Zojirushi. 

 

The sad thing is I don't EVEN cook bread in my bread maker.  I just use the dough setting.  My bread maker is like the economy car.  IT will get you where you need to go.

you routinely have squirrel moments

 

A squirrel moment is defined as random thought or idea not related to what is currently being discussed or related to the current situation that is randomly blurted out during conversation with another adult.

I am pretty notorious for this. I am usually visually distracted by something then I blurt out my observation. It is like I have conversation ADD.  We homemakers are multi-taskers even in our conversations. I have these type of conversations almost daily.

My most recent memorable conversation that has documentation actually had to do with this squirrel mask sold on Amazon.
