Adult field trips are a bit weird. Am I right? We took our family to see the bats to fly out of the cavern at Carlsbad Caverns, except we didn't see that.
It started thundering and lightening so we had to leave. The bat program is canceled for rain and lightening. The amphitheater is surrounded by metal railings basically.
We did see a lovely rainbow though. 
Luckily, we brought our dinner and ate it up at the visitor center before all the rain began. We live an hour away. It was a nice drive. We will try again soon.
