20 cent gardening gamble

I think that sunflowers are happy flowers.  I just love them and I don't believe my garden is complete without them.

I found these Lemon Queen Sunflower seeds in the 20 cent seed selection at Walmart. The Great Sunflower Project suggests the Lemon Queen Sunflower to grow.  I decided to gamble and buy the cheap seeds.  I have had varying luck on growing sunflowers but "try and try again" is my motto.

Sunflowers

My sunflowers finally bloomed.  I was beginning to think with the absence of sun they would never bloom. I hope to participate with the kids in the Great Sunflower Project. The kids and I will be counting how many bees visit our sunflowers during a 15 minute time frame.

Great Sunflower Project

I have my first sunflower bloom. I usually grow sunflower every year. I think they are fun. This year I thought I would take part in the Great Sunflower Project. Here is the start of my project. The Great Sunflower Project objective is to count the number of times a bee comes to pollinate your sunflower during a 15 minute time period and submit your data. The want to learn the current state of bee activity. I haven't done my data sheet as I hope to have a few open sunflowers. Of course, I want to get the boys to help me out.
